Malachi Memorial Camp (MMC) came into existence in 2015. The church wanted to support and send youth to a summer camp FREE of charge no matter what church they belong to or didn’t belong to. The church board decided to host this FREE camp and were very fortunate to have it located on a church member's farm. While in the process of planning for a FREE camp, Pastor Lance and his wife, Emily, endured the tragic loss of their son Malachi. Malachi was born directly into the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The church then decided to use memorial money as a startup for camp and decided to dedicate it to honor Malachi. And Malachi Memorial Camp was formed!
MMC is hosted on the Wetter Family Farm which is a 400 acre operational farm. Children of all ages, toddlers to seniors in high school, are invited to attend FREE of charge each year.
MMC is a unique experience that offers everything a typical camp would offer. Campers sleep in tents or cabins (depending on numbers), food is catered in or prepared on site, a huge makeshift pool and slip-n-slide is provided in the sheep pasture, and biblical lessons are taught throughout the farm which brings the biblical stories to life.
Some of the activities campers have enjoyed in the past are: night hikes, glow walks, brick making with mud and straw collected from the field and kiln dried, bow tag provided by the National Guard, concerts by Jason gray and Chris Cron, campfires, hayrides, horseback riding, and capture the flag in the corn and soybean fields.
Each year the theme changes and the experiences are different. The best way to describe MMC is like Vacation Bible School on steroids.
Children are separated according ages so that lessons, games, and crafts can be tailored appropriately for each age group.
And did we mention this unique camp experience is FREE to all campers? So how is this FREE camp possible? Mt Hope and Wauzeka churches fund this camp by paying for all expenses and volunteering to plan meals, make meals, serve the meals, teach lessons, create crafts, and plan a fun-filled week that children of all ages can experience and remember for a life time while at the same time learning about the bible. Donations are greatly appreciated from people and other churches who see the value in providing a Christian camp that is FREE to all children.
